今年是该评选进行的第65届，其每年由《踢球者》杂志组织，投票者是德国体育记者协会（VDS）的成员，候选人为在德国联赛中效力的球员、教练，以及在国外踢球的德国籍球员、教练。

共有751人参与投票，其中2票为无效票。克罗斯获得285票，阿隆索获得503票。
